Life After Television

After travelling from Australia, the very beginnings of Just One Moment Photography sparked in Europe.

Based in Manchester, one of the best cities in Britain, our photography work took us to Paris, Milan, London, and New York. Blessed with the good fortune of working with models such as October Noire, Kumi, and kind encouragement from mentor Lord Damian McGillicuddy, our fashion portraits, fine art photography, people journalism and music images became highly sought after.

Published with the world's biggest magazine companies - Conde Naste, Emap, with gallery exhibitions London, Manchester and Sydney.

A Moment Behind the Lens - With Just One Moment Photography, Mackay Whitsundays

By Jaime Newborn

WHEN photographers Doug and Fiona recall past wedding shoots, they don’t talk about location or theme… they remember the people.

“Remember that wedding we did for Sarah and Jeremy?” Fiona asks.
“That was a great one, great dancing.”
Doug agrees.

“And the one we did for Tara and Ben?” he says. “All the guests dressed in an old style jazz-bar theme, everyone having fun. Just a really good vibe.”

As the pair points out, a wedding day is about one thing - people. And it seems their business name, Just One Moment photography, has been oddly prophetic. Because it is their talent at capturing the unique essence of the people behind the moment (the ‘just once’ kind) that really make their photos sing.

As Doug explains, one moment can contain so many elements.

“When we started as photographers over in the UK, we actually used to stay away from wedding shoots ... we were doing a lot of fashion shoots, photos of the music industry, models, television work - that sort of thing,” he says.

“Then we did a couple of weddings for friends and I thought - this is alright actually! In one great day you cover all emotions, it's a photographers dream. “The thing about a wedding is, it’s one day, one moment, that you’ve got everything. “You’ve got beauty, you’ve got glamour, you’ve got Dad’s getting teary and people laughing, and people dancing, and love and kisses and kids.

“There’s so many emotions rolled up and condensed into those 10 or so hours, it gives you enormous scope as a photographer to capture all those elements and really create something magic.”

Today, with Doug’s background in fashion and his expertise as a professional studio photographer is a major reason that brides of all kinds flock to their photography base in Mackay and the Whitsundays. “We have plenty of local clients, as well as clients from interstate and overseas, who typically shoot around the beautiful areas of Mackay, or at Airlie Beach and the islands,” Doug says.

“But there is no such thing as a bad location, we work everywhere.”

“After the wedding day you have your ring, your love for each other… and you have your photos,” says Fiona. She confesses she often has a “little teary moment” because on the other side of the lens emotions can also run high.

“When I think about it, those photos will get handed down for generations,” she says.

Now that’s a moment worth keeping.
